No, it's not Sophie Marceau, but you've given me an idea. I'm leaning towards a Krzysztof Kieslowski film...

Indeed. Best to just move on and pretend it never happened...but thanks for noticing. (nod)

Silence of the Lambs isn't even old, it's just not current. A bit like me.

But "really, really, old"? I'd reserve that for a shot of a train pulling into La Ciotat station.

Cyberpunk 2077 is perfectly playable as it stands. It was a buggy mess when it first lurched into view, no doubt about it, but I only came to it towards the end of last year, and it's in much better shape now (it does seem to randomly crash every now and again, but the autosave is usually only a few minutes behind). I put over 140 hours into it (XB Series X) before I was done, and found nothing egregiously broken with the performance in general; at least nothing that you wouldn't also see in similar games.

Plus it has really floppy penises, at least on the character creation screen, and they're always funny.

I played a little of Days Gone on the PS4 (it runs quite well on a Pro), though it didn't really grab me. Seemed like a perfectly decent zombie game, though.

I'm not really a fan of Rockstar Games, so I haven't played RDR 2...or RDR, for that matter. :-\

Other games open-world-type games I played, though I wouldn't necessarily commit to recommending them...State of Decay 2? I lost interest after a while, but it's seemed solid. Generation Zero had a interesting setting (1980's Sweden) but the gameplay loop wasn't engaging. Combat wasn't particularly fun, either.

If something is on Game Pass or PSPlus, I'll usually give it a go. But if it doesn't grab me within that initial play, I'll just move on. Time is too valuable a commodity to spend playing games that end up feeling like a chore.

Having said that, I highly recommend PowerWash Simulator, which turns an actual chore into a very satisfying game!

It was an obscure one, alright, but you are correct!

I'm going to move this thread to a more suitable location. It doesn't meet the requirements of the recruitment board.

The Amiga version of forgotten adventure Crash Garrett is bugged and cannot be finished.

I had the Atari ST version of the game back in the day. Apparently the ST version (and the C64, CPC, and DOS versions) can be finished, though I never did manage to finish it. :-\

I happened to watch The Name of the Rose again quite recently, having not seen it since it first aired on TV back in the late '80s (an awkward family viewing experience :-[).

It's a great visual film, much like Bram Stoker's Dracula, in that it's a feast for the eyes but a bit rickety in the story department. Reading the Wikipedia entry for it, one critic cited the "preposterously happy ending" as a major fault, and it is quite an upbeat ending for such a dark story.

Overall, though, I'd certainly recommend it. Shockingly, it doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere. :-\

Quote from: Snarky on Mon 16/01/2023 07:18:31And was your hypothesis correct, @LimpingFish?

It actually was. It was the first thing that popped into my head, simply because it was a hawk flying over some mountains, which happens a lot in that particular movie. Of course, maybe the hawk was incidental, and the snowy mountain was the main focus, so it could have been was movie primarily concerned with mountains (perhaps The Eiger Sanction).

Lesson to be learned: Always trust your first hunch. (nod)

...

Unless it's wrong.

Quote from: Wiggy on Sat 14/01/2023 17:56:26This is the "Hints and Tips" thread. If you don't have anything to contribute, then don't post here. I personally don't care how or why you cheated to beat the game, but just leave this forum to those who want the enjoyment of playing and getting over a slight stumble along the way.  OK?

Not cool, dude. Please refrain from posting in this manner in the future.

Robocop

If not, then:

Blade Runner

While the reasoning is sound, you just missed the mark. It's as iconic as those two, but...

Quote from: heltenjon on Fri 13/01/2023 09:39:51I guess that's a logo that ought to be familiar, but... ???

The logo, taken out of context, isn't as instantly recognizable as the Jurassic Park logo, but if you do recognize it, it's a pretty big clue...

Quote from: Sinitrena on Fri 13/01/2023 06:07:09Die Hard?

No...Yes! It's Die Hard! ;-D

We think of Die Hard taking place almost entirely in an around the Nakatomi Plaza building (the logo in the last shot), but there's a number of scenes set at the McClane residence and at a TV studio. For the record, I had a couple of other shots prepared which may or may not have given the game away earlier...

Anyway, Sinitrena wins! :)

No, not one of the Naked Gun films, and no that isn't Geena Davis.

I'm beginning to suspect my plan has worked too well. :-[

Remember, this is a really well-known movie, that some people will have watched multiple times; one that would be instantly recognizable if I posted one of the more iconic scenes, or one featuring any of the main cast. Dialogue and images from it have been consistently regurgitated in almost every facet of pop-culture over the years.

Nope, none of those.

It's actually really difficult to find shots that won't give it away immediately. 8-0

How about...

Ah, Richard Lynch...so many b-movies enlivened by his presence. I recommend Larry Cohen's God Told Me To, where he plays a hermaphrodite Christ-like human-alien hybrid!

Now, a new movie to guess. Part of me wants to post obscure screenshots from a really well-known movie, and see how long I can keep people in the dark...

Hmm...
