Strange, looks like your Tahoma font might be corrupt.

If you open Notepad, go to the Format menu, "Font", and then choose Tahoma, do you see a "Regular" option?

If not you could try downloading the Tahoma font from the internet and installing it, see if that fixes the problem.

But it doesn't work until I set borders to the edges (0,768, 1024 or larger).
Before the new edges, EGO gets stuck and the code doesn't work, with 0 border it's ok (don't ask me why).

Wait a minute, where were the room edges before you moved them?

I remember some problems a while back with the pathfinder, where it turned out that the cause was that the room edges weren't set properly and that was causing the issue.

Basically, when a character finishes moving somewhere, the pathfinder automatically checks to make sure that they have finished up on a walkable area. If not, it moves the character a couple of pixels until it is.

HOWEVER, it will never move the character outside of the room edges (this was because it could accidentally move you a couple of pixels across the room edge and activate the Player Walks Off Right type events).

Therefore if you don't set the room edges properly, you'll find that the character can get stuck when they are walking outside of the edges.

Can you try removing that extra script code you've added, and just making sure the room edges are correct, and see if the problem still happens?

You'll have to be more specific than that. In which room did he get stuck? Where in that room? Can you post a screenshot of the room's walkable areas?

Thanks for your suggestions so far, guys. I'll incorporate some of them into AGS :)

I'll leave this thread open though -- as with the splash screen's tagline, this is something that can be continually added to over time.

Ok, I mentioned this in the 3.1 beta thread but I don't think anyone noticed, so I'll try again.

The next version of AGS will include a "Tip of the Day" area on the Start Page, to give you random tips on using AGS.
Initially I have two:
"You can right-click sprites and use Assign To View to easily set up views"
"You can right-click a variable in the script and use Go TO Definition to see wher eit was defined"

Does anyone else have any suggestions for tips? Ideally these would be things you can do in AGS that aren't immediately obvious and are easily missed.

I was gonna buy a cake, but then I got sidetracked by a funny looking dog sat at the side of the road, and ended up buying beer instead.

The recent Hyper Magazine thread reminded me that we never did get round to creating a thread as a kind of "archive" of when AGS or AGS Games have featured in the media.

Therefore, I have created this thread for just that purpose. I've copied these from a post by Felipe last year, if there's anything I've missed feel free to post a reply.

Masturbation isn't a bad thing

Indeed: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3072021.stm

Anyway, as Barcik says why not just do whatever you're comfortable with. If you enjoy sleeping around then great; if you'd rather wait until marriage then that's fine too.

Not in a useful fashion that would help you.

However, if you're feeling adventurous, open up the roomedit.clb file in a text editor, scroll down to near the bottom, and you should be able to extract all the function names from there.
#16
QuoteOn a related note, does CJ or anyone else have a text file list of all Script Keywords and Built-in functions that I can have?

Script keywords are:
int char short return function string if else while struct import export

The manual index has a list of all the built-in functions. The editor constructs the list automatically from the available functions so I'm afraid I don't have a handy text list of them.

QuoteFinally, the function name completion is great in the built-in editor, I just wish it wouldn't do it when editing dialogs, too. Grrr.

Don't worry, that's fixed in 2.56 :P

What this forum is for:
* Taking part in the various competitions and activities organized in the AGS Community

What this forum is not for:
* Anything else

If you have an idea for a new competition, then post it in the designated thread. It will then be allowed here if it gets approval from the majority of forum members and approval by a global moderator or a moderator of this forum.

DO NOT post a new competition here without asking first

Competitions and Activites:

* Background Blitz: Draw a background following to given rules, the winner is selected by voting.
* Colouring Ball: You get a basic sprite outline, and it's yours to colour and improve. Sometimes a theme is given. The thread starter elects a winner, who gets to initiate the next round, and provide the start-sprite.
* Fortnightly Writing Competition: Write a short story on a given topic / brief, the overall winner is decided by users selecting their favourites in categories such as Character, Plot, Writing Style & Atmosphere.
* MAGS: A monthly competition for all amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to use AGS to create a game in under a month, following the rules set by the previous winner.
http://www.mags-competition.tk/
* Sprite Jam: Draw a sprite/sprites that fits the theme and size/color rules of the current event. Normally it's up to the host to decide who the winner is, and the winner will be the host to the next constest.

* MSPaint Game: Using MS Paint to sketch the scene the previous poster asked for.
* Tune Contest: Create a musical masterpiece that fits the current events theme and rules.
* Photoshop Biweekly: Using your favourite editing program, modify a picture to fit the theme of the week.
* AGS team challenge: The activity itself does not take place here, only the registration and the information updates.
* Puzzle Time: Every week a post will be made with a list of items and a scenario. Using your brain find a way to complete the scenario with the items provided.
* Caption Contest: Fill in the bubbles to make a serious and/or funny comic strip. Normally it's up to the host to decide who the winner is, and the winner will be the host to the next constest.
* Monthly Writing Project: Write a short story that illustrates the theme of the month.
* Concept Art to Functional: Using the provided concept art, create a workable piece for AGS games.
* Poetry Competition: Write your own poetry fitting the proposed theme, the winner is selected by voting.
* Voice acting competition: Record the text provided by last round's winner.
* Comic Competition: Make a comic strip according to the theme set by the thread initiator.
* Ongoing Comic: Add a strip or a panel to the previous contributions, to help create a long, ongoing comic.
* The ASCII game: Create art with the ASCII symbols.
* Quizzening: Test your adventure game related knowledge.
* Photography competition: Take pictures according to the the theme set by the thread initiator.

Activities that are lined out are not currently available. Do not re-activate without consulting a moderator.

So you've wandered into the technical mire that is AGS game-making, and you've come for assistance. There's nothing wrong with that, we all need a little help now and then.

THIS FORUM IS FOR:

  • Help with more difficult scripting questions
  • Bug reports
  • Suggestions for future versions of AGS

THIS FORUM IS NOT FOR:

  • Simple questions about the AGS Editor or scripting (use the Beginners Technical Questions forum)
  • General chat (use the Adventure-related talk or General Discussion forums)
  • Art questions. Do NOT post questions about Paint Shop Pro or how to draw characters here!
  • Asking when the next version will be released. If you ask when the next version is coming out, you will be slapped silly with a moist trout. Versions are released when they are ready. End of story.

USE A DESCRIPTIVE SUBJECT WITH ALL NEW POSTS! Subjects like "Question" or "Help" will not be tolerated.

INFORMATION
Before posting, have a check of the various documentation which is available on the Resources page.
Also, try a forum search first to see if a similar question has already been answered in the past.
However, don't unnecessarily bump old threads to the front page. If your problem is different enough and you still need help, feel free to start a new thread.

The GitHub Issue Tracker lists known bugs and current suggestions for future AGS versions. If you think one of the suggestions would really help your game, feel free to reply to its entry and lend your support.

In addition to the one built into AGS, an online version of the manual is available as well. Also, there's a user-driven AGS Wiki.

AGS supports user-written plugins and script modules. You can find them listed here and here. Once you're comfortable with AGS, why not check them out and see if they can help you.
Beware though, using a plugin will mean that your game may not run on Linux or MacOS! Script modules work on all platforms.

Interesting topics including plugin and module support threads have been archived in the Modules & Plugins forum.
