As far as I can tell it a bit of a archaic term for a shell.

Yeah, as you said, there is an old shell called "Executive", and the Windows interface classified itself as an "MS-DOS Executive" for the first few versions. But more recently there is also the "Windows Executive" that runs between the UI and the kernel in NT, which seems to either be unrelated to the old definition, or is related in a very specific way that I can't figure out.
It's just tough to find anything searching for 'shell' and 'executive' that isn't about oil.

Well I'm going to take a stab at that one Magnus, but I may be completely wrong. I'm pretty sure this IS NOT what you're asking, cos I'd assume you know the difference between EXE and shells....

What I'm looking for is more info on what is summarised here. That says that an executive is a shell, but I figure there must be a difference or it would just be called a shell, right? I assume it's a kind of "squares are all rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares" type thing, but can anyone give me any more specific info?

Can anyone tell me, in terms of computers, what precisely is an executive?
I know it's basically a kind of user interface, but what's the difference between an executive and a shell, for instance?

Thanks, but I'm afraid that's not the one I'm after. I originally posted a version without music, then replaced the link with version 1.2 (which has a couple of midis, and a few minor gameplay changes based on people's feedback) about a week later, so the original was really only available for that first week. That's why it's a such long shot.

While on astronauts thing - they should give them something like the ropes Batman uses for grapling (only maybe with some thing sticky or magnets at the end, so they don't damage the actual ship). They should have that on their arms so if the drift away they just point it at the shuttle and shoot...maybe they even have that.

The trouble with that idea being that Batman uses one in a situation where there's gravity and a clearly defined 'up'. Because the grapple pulls him away from the Earth's gravitational pull it's easy for him to stop. In a Zero-G environment, once you accelerate you need to apply an equal force to stop yourself moving which is basically asking astronauts to pick up over their own body weight. End result - astronauts slamming into the ship's hull and it becomes a contest as to whether the suit or the ship takes the worst/most expensive damage.

Not necessarily.
You're assuming it must include the rope-retracting mechanism, but it doesn't have to.
The astronauts could just pull the rope by hand once it's attached.
They could probably even still include the retracting mech if they made it sufficiently weak.

Tools don't work predictably in space. They found early on that a drill used in Zero-G would actually cause the astronaut to spin around at great speed, for example.

Even if that astronaut was anchored to the rest of the shuttle in some way?
